  • Survey Finds Transit Riders More Relaxed

A recent survey conducted by the Wage Works Center for Commuter Studies indicates that in contrast to those who drive to work, those who use transit have more time to exercise their minds, feel more relaxed, and catch up on simple pleasures such as recreational reading.

The survey was conducted in August 2003 via Internet, and included respondents from San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles. The survey compared public transportation to driving.

In addition to feeling that their quality of life is enhanced by riding public transportation, 54% of respondents also feel good about what they are doing for their urban and physical environment in terms of pollution reduction. (Passenger Transport, November 24, 2003)
