Alexandria Transit Company Receives National Bus Safety Award for
Fourth Consecutive Year
The
American Public Transportation Association (APTA) will present its
"Silver Award" for bus safety to the Alexandria Transit
Company (ATC) at its national annual Bus and Paratransit Conference
held May 6, 2002 in Minneapolis, Minn. The purpose of the award
is to acknowledge transit systems with superior safety records and
have demonstrated excellence in their safety performance for four
consecutive years.
More
than 100 transit systems from the United States and Canada competed
in the 2002 APTA Bus Safety Award Competition. Alexandria Transit
was judged to have an outstanding safety record and notable achievement
in safety of operations during the past year. "We are extremely
proud of our safety record and our employees, who have worked together
to make safety at DASH a number one priority," states Sandy
Modell, ATC general manager. "New DASH operators complete an
extensive training program that includes the Smith System Defensive
Driving course and all of our operators attend refresher training
periodically. In addition, we reinforce safety on a daily basis
through safety messages that are announced over the bus radios throughout
the day."
ATC
was awarded APTAs Silver Award last year and received the
Gold Award two years ago, which is the highest achievement. Three
years ago, ATC also captured the Silver Award.
